January 3rd, 2011, 3 days before his twelfth birthday was the day he was forced to face reality. An event so powerful it turned a warm heart cold, an event that turned blood in his veins to ice, so powerful it leaves unseen scars on the people he loves, including himself. Wounds to deep to ever mend. Four years with a broken heart, shapes a young kid with big dreams to a responsible man with an even bigger vision.
Picture a perfect family a mom, dad, two brothers, and the best grandparents anyone could ever ask for. A big house filled with all the things you love. Health, wealth, and happiness Friends that would kill for you. You can feel the love in your bones, you can feel the happiness float through your bloodstream like a raft down rapids. The taste you have so sweet, but turns so bitter, so quick.
January 6th, 2011, funeral day. l wake up to a frosted over yard. My eyes crusty, dried, and bloodshot. Mother walks into my room with a forced smile, hands over a little surprise and speaks. “Happy Birthday son, I Love you more than the world. People come, people go, but I’m here, always”, as she gives me a suit and tie for dad’s funeral.
I’ve always been told growing old takes time. For me, things were different. When you are forced to play an adult role at twelve years old, you see the world in a different light. Holding the weight of the world on your shoulders toughens you up, but as years go on the weight becomes too much to bare and it will begin to break you down.
I Believe everything happens for a reason. Going on without someone I love may be hardest challenge I’ve encountered. I’ve accepted this challenge, and im ready to kick it’s ass.
